ENTRIES & REGISTRATION
WHEN DO ONLINE ENTRIES CLOSE?
Online registration will close at midday on Thursday 6th December 2018. Entries completed after this will incur a late fee. You can enter on the day, at the Bethells Estate event base. Payment for on the day registrations can be made by cash, cheque, or eftpos/credit card.
6km Run/Walk has SOLD OUT! Entries for 13km, 21km and 42km distance options are still available to enter on the day.
WHAT ARE THE AGE RESTRICTIONS FOR CHILDREN?
Marathon Run - 18 years and over
All other distance options:
13yrs to 18yrs – Guardians permission required
12yrs and under – Child must be accompanied by guardian. This means at least one parent/guardian must be with the child on course and is responsible for their safety and wellbeing at all times.
I PLAN ON WALKING MOST OF THE COURSE, AND JOGGING SOME BITS WHEN I FEEL GOOD - DO I ENTER AS A WALKER OR RUNNER?
You enter as a runner. The walking category is for people that are going to walk 100% of the course, and these people want to gauge themselves against other people that walk only.
I AM INJURED AND CANNOT DO THE EVENT, WHAT CAN I DO?
Get an event credit
As per the registration waiver there are no refunds if you withdraw from this event. We do offer credits which last for 12 months and can be used towards any Total Sport owned event in that time minus a $15 admin fee. Please email Registrations if you withdraw from the event before online registrations close.
In the very unlikely event that we are forced to cancel an event due to bad weather, there will be no refunds available.
Change your distance
You can change distances prior to online registrations closing. Open your confirmation email and click to amend. This will take you to your online registration page. If you can’t locate your registration confirmation email Registrations and we'll resend it for you. Note: There are no partial refunds if downgrading.
WHAT SHOULD MY MANDATORY EQUIPMENT LIST CONSIST OF FOR THE 42.2KM / 21.1KM EVENTS?
Depending on the weather forecast for event day, a call will be made by event staff on Thursday as to whether we will be implementing the below options for the competitors in the 42.2km / 21.1km event. Please bring all possible mandatory equipment and leave out any items not required. The final decision regarding mandatory equipment will made and communicated on event morning.
Option 1: Nothing
Option 2: Seam sealed jacket
Option 3: Long sleeve top (polyprop or wool), beanie (polyprop or wool), survival blanket, seam sealed jacket
While some of this gear may seem excessive, we ask you to bring it for your safety. You may not need it while you are running or walking but if something happens and you have to stop you will need it. The event is on very exposed, rugged country and it can be very cold if you have to stay in one spot.
WHERE IS THE EVENT BASE?
The street address for Google Maps, is 280 Bethells Road, Waitakere. The drive time is approx. 45 mins (from Auckland CBD) but give yourself a little extra time if you’re not familiar with the area.
The event base is on the private property located at 280-282 Bethells Rd, Bethells Beach. This is a 1km stroll up the driveway from the parking area, follow event signage. Please bring all gear you will require for the day and leave it with us in the gear tent while you’re on the trail.
AT THE EVENT
DO YOU HAVE A GEAR TENT TO LOOK AFTER MY STUFF WHILE I’M OUT FOR MY WALK/RUN?
Yes, you can leave your gear at the event base which will be tagged with your race number. Leave it with us and collect it after your event.
DO I NEED CLEAN SHOES?
YES, we’re very privileged to have access to some wonderful tracks through some amazing native bush on the West Coast. Kauri Dieback Disease is thought to be a soil-borne disease that kills Kauri tress. So please follow these steps below:
Make sure shoes and equipment are clean of dirt before and after the event
You will be required to walk over the Sterigene-filled mats before you start your event
Clean shoes and any other equipment that comes into contact with soil after every visit, especially if moving between bush areas
Keep to defined park tracks at all times. Any movement of soil around the roots of a tree has the potential to spread the disease
Note: dogs are NOT allowed at the SPEIGHT’S West Coaster. Dogs can inadvertently spread the disease if they disturb the soil around the trees.
ARE THERE CUT OFF TIMES?
Yes, final cut off for all distances is 4:30pm at the finish line.
42km: 8.5hrs to complete the course.
21km: 7.5hrs to complete the course.
IS THERE A SPECIAL BAG DROP FOR THE 42KM?
Yes, if you would like to leave a special supply bag at the event base to be taken to the Dunes Aid Station (22.5km point), please hand it over to the registration staff and make it clear this is for Special Bag Drop NOT gear tent.

WHERE AND WHEN IS THE PRIZE GIVING?
We are going to have prize giving at the event base. Trophies will be awarded to the over-all race winners, male and female, for each of the race options. We have split prize giving up to try and avoid you speedsters hanging around too long!
12noon - Prize Giving for 6km and 13km events.
2:30pm - Prize Giving for 21km and 42km events.
Note: 42km Marathon participants will also receive finish medals at the finish line.
WILL THERE BE FOOD OPTIONS AVAILABLE AT THE EVENT?
Yes, as always, we will have the Total Sport BBQ fired up and the SPEIGHT’S will be on ice. So once you have sufficiently recovered after your run/walk head over to the big blue SPEIGHT’S tent and grab a nice cold beer and a hot sausage. We will also have water and electrolyte drink to rehydrate.
IS THERE A MASSAGE TENT AT THE FINISH LINE?
Yes, Bodyneed will be on hand at the event base to give you that well deserved massage after your race. $15 is all it takes to feel you can move again! Please bring cash for your massage.
